PCA: | Patient-Controlled Analgesia Electronically controlled infusion pump filled with an analgesic used for pain control. Patient pushes a button to infuse a controlled amount of medication into an IV or epidural catheter. Physicians write an order for the dose and timing of the drug. Pump has a "lock out" feature so patients do not overdose on medication. Patient may not leave the hospital with a PCA. |
